Covid 19 instilled fear to the minds and hearts of all Funafuti people and this new norm triggered the Falekaupule to approved the project for the construction of new houses for every Mataniu at Funafala to encourage people to move to the islet away from the danger of Covid 19.
The new dumpsite will minimise the unnecessary dumping of rubbish on the islet and allow the proper management of waste.
The Falekaupule has approved the expansion of the current garden at Funafala by half an acre and to be fully managed by the Government and the ROC Technical Mission.
In the MoM I under the thematic area Water Security, Health and Sanitation, the project ‘Overhead Tank’ was proposed as a strategy to confront heat stress, improve sanitation standard and develop & improve water management at every designated house that will greatly bring benefits to families economically.
To help people on the islet in terms of the safe keeping of their pigs with the proper storage of water and pig waste and it will also encourage people to venture into piggery farming.
The new watchman shed and tower will enable the safe guarding of the Funafuti Conservation Area. It will stand as a deterrence to all people and at the same time serve as a light house for the many fishing boats in the area.
